Faial, Azores, Portugal

Today, we flew from St. John's to Faial, Azores. It was the first ocean passage of the trip. Other than a glitch with the HF radio, which later seem to heal itself, the flight was without incident.

The Hotel Fayal was adequate. We had to request a move to another room because we couldn't get CNN on the 13" TV, there were large stains on the carpet, the screens were pulled loose on the patio door (mosquitoes), and there was no telephone jack to plug-in my laptop. The next room was much better although they did have to repair the telephone. Oh well, "it's the islands mon".

Our room faced the harbor and had a great view of Pico which an adjacent island. Pico is the youngest island in the Azores and is dominated by the volcano from which it was created. It towers above the sea to a height of 2,500 meters (whatever that is).
