Marbella
We sleep soundly and don't leave
the comfort of bed until nearly 9:00 a.m. Then it is puttering
around with the laptop, e-mail, TV, etc. while we waste away
the morning in the luxury of our room.
About 12:45 we go out and have
lunch by the pool near the room, then start out on the beach
walk, this time heading east toward the central part of Malaga.
As you can imagine, packing for
this three-month marathon is a challenge and I have taken
the minimalist approach, even though the bulk and weight of
my bag doesn't make me think I succeeded very well. When it
came to running/walking/fun shoes I opted for a pair of solid
black New Balance shoes from The Sports Authority, thinking
these could do double duty as nicer shoes, since they are
black. (I also have golf shoes in my golf bag, a pair of cordovan
loafers, and my black dress/uniform shoes.) Well, walking
with shorts, white sweat socks and black tennis shoes? Nah!
I ain't gonna be mistaken for an American! A nerdy German
maybe, but no American would be caught dead looking this bad!
Oh well…
We walked for over two hours.
Lots of beachfront restaurants, cabanas, boats, etc. The Mediterranean
was very calm, in stark contrast to a few days ago. The beach
itself is made up of a taupe, dark, somewhat coarse sand…not
the soft white sand I had expected.
Back to the hotel, with dinner
reservations made at the Grill Restaurant here for 8:30 p.m….an
early Spanish dinner hour. Spoke to Universal to try to get
them to correct a couple of snags in the way they have been
filling out the ICAO flight plan form, and the preview fax
came from them showing no problems in weather tomorrow for
our flight to Bordeaux, France.
